The over sophistication of an already sophisticated game

Posted by Tyler Sullivan on

Does anyone think golf is easy?

That was a rhetorical question. Golf is hard and as a golfer I am always looking for equipment and/or technology that will improve my game. If it wasn't hard, then there would not be such a huge market for golf equipment, training aids and gadgets. Many of these training aids, range finders and golf clubs (specifically golf drivers) are an actual help to your game but some are over sophisticating an already sophisticated game.

What do I mean?

The golf swing evolves and changes with almost every swing. Only the best golfers in the world have a repeatable golf swing, well until they make a swing change. So why are we tweaking golf drivers to our swing that is changing and IMPROVING. Please note there is a certain shaft flex, loft and length that will help with your game but using a wrench isn't the right way.

And is anyone actually using these wrenches to change weight, hosel, loft, swap out shafts and more...

I have an unique vantage point because I talk to thousands of golfer's a week and it is clear that over 90% that have bought an adjustable driver either don't know to adjust it or don't bother.

For the 10% that are constantly adjusting your driver, is that actually helping your game or giving you more excuses than reasons to shoot lower?

I felt obligated to talk about the recent push for over sophistication in the golf driver market, because it is not what the golfer wants. Golf isn't easy and becoming one with your equipment takes practice and lots of it. Adjusting your driver isn't a way to increase confidence or improve your game, but it is a way for companies to market to their same driver head shape as different. Just because your new driver has more weights, more screws, more gravity cores, more things to mess with doesn't make it better for the golfer or for the scoring.

Bottom line.

Golf is tough enough without marketing influence, wrenches and over sophistication of equipment.

Best Golf Clubs Of All Time - BombTech Golf Featured

Posted by Tyler Sullivan on

bunkers-logo-small.png

Our custom golf driver, the Grenade was just featured in the "30 BEST GOLF CLUBS OF ALL TIME" written by Bunker's Paradise. It has been an unreal journey from a new brand to being featured in Entrepreneur Magazine, Golf Digest, PGA Tour radio and now the best clubs of all time list. Not to mention bringing Chi Chi Rodriguez onto our team.

Bunker's Paradise was the first independent blog to review the Grenade driver. And upon our first discussions, there was some skepticism. But that was quickly erased with the first swing of the Grenade! So I want to thank Bunker's for breaking the ice and doing the first official review of our driver.

I want to also take this opportunity to thank you. I understand that there are literally thousands of equipment options on the market, but you still choose BombTech everyday over the big marketing budgets of the OEM's. So, thank you.

Now let's get to the top 30 list.

"Golf is unique in that it is a sport known as much for its greatest pieces of equipment as for those men and women who have broken records and won majors yielding them. We at Bunkers Paradise understand that golf fans appreciate and remember their first driver, iron set or favorite putter for decades. We also know that some of the greatest clubs of all time came long before the days of adjustable drivers, titanium clubheads or square grooves.

We tee-up our first installment of naming the greatest golf clubs of all time by remembering some of the greatest drivers ever. We have 30 Top Drivers on our list, but I’m sure there are some we might be leaving out that you believe should make the list. Comment below and tell us which drivers should have made the list."

Day 4 on the Quest for 350 Yards

Posted by Tyler Sullivan on

Golf is not easy and neither is gaining distance with your golf driver. I have set a personal average driving distance goal of 350 yards. My current baseline from day 1 and 2 is 312 yards.

Golf Driver Distance log:

Day 1: 312 yards

Day 2: 312 yards

Day 3: 322 yards

Day 4: 320 yards

The first 2 days on my journey to 350 yards were a true baseline for my distance. As I have only played golf twice prior to those swings. Day 3 was an exciting day in terms of technique. I found a higher wrist position increased my club head speed by nearly 5 mph and increased distance by 10 yards on average. My goal over the next weeks is to improve on my technique and contact quality.

As I continue to improve technique I will be adding a fitness component to my quest. I know that proper fitness and golf specific workouts will help my flexibility and increase my speed through the impact zone.

A lot of my Facebook fans have been asking what set up I am playing. I am currently playing the Grenade driver 10.5 degrees, X Flex with Matrix Chi Chi light tour shaft. My warm up driver is the Grenade golf drier 10.5 stiff flex at 45.5 inches.

As I get faster I will be tweaking my equipment to optimize my numbers.

Do you think I can hit 350 yards?

Seven guilt-free enjoy your golf game tips

Seven guilt-free enjoy your golf game tips

There's too much guilt in this world without you having to feel guilty that you didn't play as well as you wanted to on the golf course. So save your guilt over that extra bit of cake that you maybe shouldn't have had, and enjoy these seven guilt-free tips to enjoy your golf game each and every time you play.

  1. Listen to music: Bring your iPod next time you play, and listen to some fun tunes while you golf. This can re-energize you and make the game more casual and informal, upping your enjoyment.
  2. Go nine: When 18 holes seems like a drag, spend a while playing 9-hole games instead. It may refresh your perspective.
  3. Lighten up: Lightening up your load can help. Leave all the clubs behind and just take 4-5 of your most reliable clubs next time you play. When you don't have your arsenal of clubs, you're forced into extra creativity, which can unlock fun.
  4. Be realistic: While it is natural to want to improve your golf game, many golfers just aren't realistic about the pace of making improvements. Be realistic about what you can accomplish instead of being so hard on yourself.
  5. Stay in the present: If you beat yourself up about that fifth hole, you won't be having fun. Remain in the present; take a break from your past mistakes.
  6. Change your companions: Trying a round of golf with some new companions may refresh your perspective and your attitude.
  7. Stop keeping score: Sure, most golfers wouldn't dream of hitting the course without keeping score but that is exactly why this can help you have more fun! Just take the scoring out of it for a day and see if you don't leave the course with a smile.
