Golf is like business

Posted by Tyler Sullivan on

Golf is like business.

Recently, I was talking to one of my friends about his business. We were talking about different strategies and which areas of his business needed the most attention and energy. Likewise, we talked about which areas of his business that were strong and needed less effort and time.

As we discussed these business topics, it made me think of golf. Well, I am always thinking about golf, but it made me realize that golf is like running a business. What do I mean by that? Both golf and business require relentless persistence, attention, effort and practice.

Have you ever seen those get rick quick scams? Totally outrageous, but appealing right. Spend 5 easy installments of $19.99 and make $1 million in just 30 days. SIGN ME UP! Haha. There is no such thing as get rich quick. Just like there is no such thing as going from a 36 handicap to a scratch golfer in 30 days. Many golfer's never make it close to scratch. Just like many business owners fail.

But both golf and business require effort, but most importantly focused effort. Because the right type of effort and/or practice leads to better results. And many times hiring a professional (golf teaching pro) or a business consultant can help give you the third party point of view you need.

Those (golfers and business owners) that are willing to put in more work/practice will play better and be more successful. That I can guarantee. No gimmicks or infomercials are going help you get rich or shot par, but practice and effort are the key to success.

You already knew this, but it is always worth reminding yourself that golf ISN'T suppose to be easy! And neither is running a business.

So, do you think golf is like business? Or business is like golf?

Do long golf drivers offer more distance?

Posted by Tyler Sullivan on

Do long golf drivers offer more distance?

Everyone wants more distance from their golf driver, right. But are long golf drivers the answer for more distance?

From a physics stand point going longer in physical length would give you more club head speed and therefore more distance. But, why is it that the majority of pros are playing golf drivers that would be considered short when compared to these off the rack golf drivers. Many of these new stock set ups that are offered in retail are 46 inches in length and some long golf drivers are as long as 48 inches in length.

So, are these long golf drivers actually longer when it comes to distance?

Well the answer is Maybe.

I am constantly testing golf driver length, flex and weight. And the results of these tests are very clear. Long golf drivers, which I categorize as 46 inches or longer will provide you with more distance, IF you hit the center of the face. And that likelihood of good contact (i.e. center of the face) diminishes the longer you go.

For example, my 48 inch test long golf driver offers roughly 5-10 yards more distance than my standard 45 inch golf driver set up. But, those extra yards were only achievable 1 out of 20 times. As the off-center hits were more offline and would have been a complete nightmare to play on the course. Likewise, similar results for 47.5, 47 and 46.5 and so forth. The distance potential you could gain is there, but it is too difficult to be consistent with these long golf drivers.

On the flip side, my testing with my standard 45 inch golf driver set up and 44.5 inch (tour length) driver set up showed consistent accuracy and distance. The well struck golf balls were within 5-10 yards my well struck golf balls with the 48 inch driver, the difference was that I had 15 out of 20 well hit drives with the 45 inch driver and only 2 out of 20 with the 48 inch long driver. There is a reason why the pros go short to go long!

Next time you are looking for a golf driver, ask yourself what length should you play? And what do you want out of your new golf driver? Distance, accuracy or both.

If you are not sure, get a free custom golf driver fitting on our website.

FYI. Since each golf driver is custom built, you can order any length you desire. Our standard length options vary from 44.5 inches up to 47 inches and the most common driver length built is 45.5 inches.

It is official, Chi Chi Rodriguez is on team BombTech!

Posted by Tyler Sullivan on

It seemed like this day would never come, but it is finally official. Chi Chi Rodriguez is on TEAM BOMBTECH! Welcome to the team Chi Chi! I could not be more humbled to have such a legend in the golf industry on our team.

What does this mean for you?

First, I will be auctioning off a signed Chi Chi Rodriguez Grenade golf driver!

Second, there will be a new custom golf shaft option for you to choose from. Chi Chi Rodriguez had very specific requirements when it came to the weight and characteristics of his golf shaft. He asked, so I did it...Well Matrix shafts and I co-designed it.

I have been expanding our product lines from the original Grenade golf driver to our 3 wood, 5 wood, putter and now new hybrid. But this is the first time since the launch, that a new option to a current product line has been made available. This new shaft option was a long time coming, as golfer's are different and having options to fit more golfers is needed. Our "stock" golf shaft will not be replaced as it is performing so well for so many.

It is my hope that giving you options will help you dial in your game even further. As with any of our custom golf clubs, the CCR golf shaft is backed by our 60 day guarantee.

Lastly, we will be shooting a video of Chi Chi Rodriguez with his custom Grenade golf driver! Is there anything you want to see on the video?

If so, please let us know in the comments section below!

Let's hear it!
