Where Does Distance Come From in The Golf Swing?

Hi this is Jeff Crittenden, I am a current teaching pro. I am a PGA member, I just won the 2017 world long drive master’s division, with a 383 yard drive.

So I get a lot of questions on where does power come from and where does distance come from? It comes from a lot of different avenues in the golf, everything has to work correctly to maximize your power. One of the things I read all these articles on is power comes from the hips, comes from turning, comes from driving off the ground. Well not all those are always correct. So I am going to show you where my power comes from in my swing.

I hit that one okay, 279 yards with just using my arms and wrists. For me most of my power in the golf swing comes from my arms being relaxed and my hands being able to release the club in this general direction. If I swing from here releasing the club, if you say swinging this way you can see my hands releasing the club. I didn’t use any lower body, couldn’t use any hips, couldn’t turn all that much, I am not overly flexible. But my hands were able to make that whole motion and I hit it 279 yards on the simulator. So the next person to ask you where the distance comes form, it comes from your arms and hands. Thank you.

Sincerely,
