How to Hit a Golf Shot into the Wind

Hi this is Jeff Crittenden, I am a current teaching pro. I am a PGA member, I just won the 2017 world long drive master’s division, with a 383 yard drive.

So today we are going to talk into the wind shots. The winds out here blowing hard, I am in Vermont, we have got a lot of wind. It is blowing right into my face, what kind of shot do I want to hit? Do I want to swing hard to get it there, what do I want to do? In reality you want to swing softer, you want to swing slower. The RPM’s on the ball, less RPM’s the ball will get through the wind a little bit better, you want to keep it low. So the goal is to swing easy.

When you swing easy over a shot you don’t want to change your swing, or you don’t want to make it short. You want to make it exactly like your normal swing but easy. You want to make sure you set up, you want to get a good shoulder turn back, you want to swing through, make a full finish. You just want to do it slower.

I am going to hit an into the wind shot, we have got a good breeze blowing here in the studio. I am not going to change anything to my setup I am just going to hit. You can see on the studio a nice lower shot that is going to cut through the wind, is going to roll some which you want when you’re hitting into the wind. Remember into the wind swing easy, down wind you can swing hard. Thank you.

Sincerely,
