The best way to lower your scores in golf, the short game. Hey everybody my names Jorge Arteta, golf professional and instructor and I love, love, love the short game. Come on out with us today and let's see if we can help you lower your scores.
Welcome everyone to BombTech Golf Academy and today we are going to learn a little about putting and keeping good tempo. We are joined today by Alex, Alex thanks for joining us out here. One of our local amateur golfers and today Alex we are going to learn a 4 count. How to use a 4 count to help you kind of stay under control while we’re putting. Folks let’s get right to it, Alex let’s set up here and this is really what we are after. This is using your own pace everyone and your own way to stroke the ball, but what I would like for you to try is the 4 count. This is what I mean by the 4 count. We are going to go 1, 2 hit the ball, and then 3, 4 accelerate through the ball and then follow through. The whole idea here is to do this at your own pace and your own count, but again it keeps you in a smooth nice rhythmic tempo.
So let’s try this again Alex we are going to go 1, 2, 3, 4. Alright so let’s have Alex try this on his own, let’s get the ball going here. He is going to do this in real time now, 1, 2, 3, 4. If you noticed folks, what I really liked about it is the way he accelerates through the ball and then continues on his way towards the hole. So Alex, let’s see what we have got going here we are going to do it for real now. 1, 2, 3, 4 get in there. Really, really nice stroke there Alex, I really like how the shape of your putting went through the ball. How did you feel when you used that 4 count Alex? It really felt more comfortable, I think doing the 4 counting helps you keep your pace and focus on what you’re on doing. I think it is a great tool to improve your putting.
I really like what you said there Alex about the focus, folks this helps you focus on the ball. You’re not worried so much about the distractions that are around you or your buddies heckling you on the Saturday $5 nassau, but you can stay focused on the ball. Alex let’s try this again in real time, here we go and watch everybody how the count helps him with his own pace and his own stroke. So again let’s count with Alex while he does this, 1, 2, 3, 4 and that one went in! Really, really nice stroke, how did that one feel Alex? A lot more comfortable, it’s always good to have the routine that you practice so you can do it a little more natural. Again folks what he said about the focus and not feeling like you’re pressured or anything like that, he kind of used his own pace there. So folks give this tip a try a 4 count and see what you can do next time you’re out there on the golf course.
We really are glad that you got to join us today, Alex thank you for being with us today, appreciate your time. Until we meet again everyone!
